OCAA Records in 2011

TORONTO - With the New Year upon us, here is a look back at some of the records that were tied or broken in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) in 2011.

55 - New OCAA men's soccer career goals record set by St. Clair's Robert Malbasic (Windsor, Ont.). He surpassed the old record of 47 set by Mike Everson of Fleming-Peterborough with three goals in a 5-1 win over Lambton in Amherstburg, Ont. on Oct. 4.

36 - New OCAA men's volleyball single game record for kills set by Humber's Terrel Bramwell (Mississauga, Ont.) in a 3-1 (26-24, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21) win over Redeemer at home on Nov. 22. The old record of 33 was shared by Cambrian's Ben Cambridge and Seneca's Jason Hernandez.

6 - Number of runs batted in by Amanda Boismier (Windsor, Ont.) of Seneca in a 10-5 victory over Humber in women's fastball on Oct. 15. The six RBI ties an OCAA single game record, shared with six other players.

1,120 - New OCAA women's volleyball career points record set by Humber's Landis Doyle (Toronto). She surpassed the old mark of 1,035 set by Nipissing's Megan Stacey on Jan. 26 with 13 points in a 3-0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-10) victory at home over Conestoga.

194 - New OCAA women's volleyball career service aces record set by Humber's Landis Doyle. She surpassed the previous record of 188 set by Mandi Burm of Loyalist on Feb. 9 with five aces in a 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-21) win at home over Niagara.

18 - New OCAA Division II men's rugby single game points record set by Algonquin's Jeremy Nesbitt (Lindsay, Ont.) in a 53-7 win over Fleming-Lindsay on Sept. 25. The old record of 17 points was set by Sergio Grice of St. Lawrence-Kingston in 2008.

42 - New OCAA women's rugby single season points record established by Algonquin's Courtney Mastine (Whitney, Ont.) in 2011. After a successful trial season in 2010-11, women's rugby became a fully-sanctioned OCAA sport in 2011-12, with Mastine becoming the first OCAA league scoring champion.

257 - New OCAA men's volleyball single season record for kills set by Seneca's Jason Hernandez (Harrow, Ont.), surpassing the old mark of 255 set by Seneca's Kanitha Boranprasit in 2000-01. Hernandez set the record at Loyalist on Feb. 16, earning 18 kills in a 3-2 (19-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-9) loss. Hernandez also tied the previous single game record with 33 kills in a match earlier in the season.
