KITCHENER, Ont. - It took 17 years and seven games for the Conestoga Condors to pick up their first victory in OCAA men?s volleyball.
Conestoga defeated Niagara 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-23) at home on Tuesday.
Plenty of Condors contributed to the victory. Third-year power Matt Dicks (Cambridge, Ont.) had a game-high 25 offensive points on 21 kills, three aces and one block. Travis James (Oakville, Ont.) contributed 12 kills and three aces for 15 points and Chad Teather (Cambridge, Ont.) tallied 12 points on seven kills, four blocks and one ace. Jon Moser (Kitchener, Ont.) also had nine kills and one block totaling 10 points for Conestoga.
First-year outside hitter Jeff Miller (Chatham, Ont.) had a team-high seven kills for Niagara. Second-year teammate Greg Farrell (Waterdown, Ont.) matched Miller?s point total with five kills and two blocks.
Conestoga (1-6) is in its first season of OCAA volleyball since leaving the sport following the 1992-93 season.
The Condors will play at Fanshawe this Friday. Niagara (3-5) hosts Mohawk on Thursday.
